The Dealer Profile

About The Dealer Profile

The Dealer Profile is a public directory of independent used car dealerships in the United States with reviews, inventory, hours, license status, and an explainable trust score.

What it is

A profile page for every used car dealership we can find, whether or not the dealer asked for one, with the facts a buyer wants before visiting: address and hours, phone and website, our buyer reviews and the Google rating shown separately, inventory when the dealer shares it, whether the state license has been confirmed, and a 0–100 trust score that explains itself. City and state pages rank the dealers in an area so you can compare them in one place.

What it is not

  • Not a marketplace. We do not sell cars, take commissions on sales or hold your money.
  • Not pay-to-rank. Dealers can pay for features and for a labelled “Featured” spot, but never for a score, a rating or a position in the ranked list.
  • Not a place for guesses. If a field is unknown we leave it blank instead of estimating it.
  • Not a dealer's own words unless it says so. Copy labelled “Summary” is generated from structured data; a dealer's description is shown as theirs.

Where the data comes from

  • Google Places. Business name, address, phone, website, hours and the Google rating and review count. We store the Place ID and refresh the two rating numbers on a schedule. We never store Google review text.
  • State license boards. Dealer license records where a state publishes them. A license is shown as active or inactive only after it has been checked; until then it reads “not yet verified”.
  • Imports. Directories and lists of licensed dealers. Duplicates are matched by name, ZIP and phone number before a profile is created.
  • Dealers themselves. Once a dealership verifies ownership, its edits (description, hours, services, photos, inventory feed) are shown as the dealer's own.
  • Buyers. Reviews are written on this site, screened and moderated, one per dealer every 90 days per account.

How each source is used, and how the trust score weighs them, is set out on the trust & safety page.

Who it is for

  • Car buyers

You found a lot on a map or a marketplace and want to know if it is legit before you drive over. Check the license status, the trust score and the reviews, then call from the profile.

  • Dealers

Independent lots with a few rooftops and a few hundred units. Claim your profile to fix your details, answer reviews and receive the leads buyers are already sending.

  • Our team

We moderate reviews, approve claims, check license records and keep the data honest. Every automated decision is logged and can be reviewed by a person.

How we make money

Dealers pay a monthly subscription for tools: photos, review responses, an inventory feed, a lead inbox and a labelled featured placement. Buyers never pay. Because the score and ratings are off-limits to money, a paid profile looks more complete, not more trustworthy than it has earned. Plans are on the for dealers page.
